What are the step by step process in installing a client/server network?

1. Use a task scheduling utility (MS Project or Excel) to produce an action plan which can be used in preparation for a server network design. The checklist must address the following questions:
   1. How many servers and workstations?
   2. What types of servers and which servers will do which tasks?
   3. What installation media will be used?
   4. What operating systems will they use?
   5. How will you patch the operating system?
   6. How will you configure update services?
   7. How will you configure security?
   8. Compatibility issues that need to be identified
2. For each of the following services and applications, indicate how they will be implemented/activated, and

1. Naming conventions to use for computers, servers, users, groups, files/folders, etc.
2. Which server will be used:
   • Network services
     1. DHCP IP schema in scope and out of scope plan
     2. DNS
     3. Active Directory - including users, OUs, groups and GPOs (ie security)
     4. AD Certificate Services
     5. NTP how will it be configured across network
     6. Update services -configure for auto update
     7. Backup services/data migration (for the case study)
3. File services
   • File sharing proposed structure
   • File and folder protection permissions plan
4. Applications
   • Email server
   • Web server & FTP
   • Accounting
   • Update Server
   • Network monitoring (how and with what tools/software)
   • Performance monitoring (how and with what tools/software)
   • Firewall
   • Communications
5. Security (Policy)
   • Authentication including but not limited to physical (including the use of biometric authentication smart cards, PINs, etc) and server based (where not detailed previously), password policy outline and Kerberos for Linux authentication
   • file permissions
   • firewall settings and requirements ie VPNs, IDS/IPS, etc
   • the use of digital certificates for internal and external
   • Proxy server discuss how it will be implemented
6. Compatibility issues identified and how resolved

To successfully submit your work you must:

1. A server network design and action plan for implementation (including Gantt chart in Excel or MS Project or similar)
   1. A document showing the planning of your proposed network point 3 above for all areas including how services and applications will be distributed across the servers, how security will be implemented, any network monitoring to implement (for troubleshooting and diagnostics) and any possible compatibility issues identified and how they will be resolved.
