What claim could I use? Have you ever wondered if the claims made by companies/governments/organizations are true? For this project, you will be given a chance to test these claims to determine their validity! There will undoubtedly be many questions that arise as you go through this project. Part of that is by designthis will help you experience many of the intricacies of designing and conducting an observational study, including data collection and analysis. It's all a positive thing and, more importantly, realistic in the life of a statistician. *Note: Throughout this project, write as if you are communicating to a general audience!!! Do NOT assume that what you are writing will be read by a bunch of statisticians. For example, write a report that "your grandmother could understand." GETTING STARTED A: Choose a topic and a claim from a reputable source (you must include a reference). Your chosen claim should be verifiable by a measure of center (do not be tempted to use a percentage). One example of a claim is shown below but additional examples and details as to what constitutes a good claim can be found in a separate file. Submit your claim to your instructor for approval before beginning the rest of the project! Example claim: The National Association of College and Employers claims the average salary offered to 2010 graduates is $48,351. B: Once your claim has been approved, complete the planning worksheet in Canvas that will help you prepare for the following steps outlined in detail below which culminates in your final report. PART I Now it is time to begin collecting data! You need to collect data from 100 people to test its validity. For example, if you were using the claim from above, then you would get at least 100 people who graduated from college in 2010 to tell you their average salary upon graduation. 1. Collect your survey data in any way you wish but we encourage you to use GoogleForms because it is free! (other options include via email, Survey Monkey, Facebook, etc. but please note that there may be a cost). Last revised spring 2020 1 2. Present your data (the 100 individual responses) in table form. To produce your tables and any graphs, you should use Excel or another statistical software. PART II Answer the following questions about your data in complete sentences! Cite any sources
