What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a self-regulating business model that helps a company be socially accountableto itself, its stakeholders, and the public. By practicing corporate social responsibility, also called corporate citizenship, companies can be conscious of the kind of impact they are having on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental. Corporate social responsibility is a broad concept that can take many forms depending on the company and industry. Through CSR programs, philanthropy, and volunteer efforts, businesses can benefit society while boosting their brands.

That being said, what are you personally interested in as an individual? What cause or environmental concern to you feel strongly about? What type of volunteerism have you participated in the past? Please think about various philanthropic (non-profit) organizations you would like to learn more about and potentially support moving forward. Consider selecting a non-profit organization that aligns with your current employer and is of genuine interest to you.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to philanthropic activities, otherwise referred to as social responsibility. Organizations today embrace philanthropy as one of their core values, care for their communities and the environment, and further brand their organizations through such activities. As an HR Manager, you will be spearheading such efforts.
