What would be an appropriate response to this post?
In five years, professionally and educationally I see myself as a Gunnery Sergeant working towards First Sergeant with an associate's degree and being close to completing a bachelor's degree. I currently see myself on the route of administration and guiding the organization through leadership and mentorship as a First Sergeant as opposed to a subject specialist in the Master Sergeant route. I personally find most of my passion in the camaraderie and mentorship of the organization and improving the team and community by providing opportunities for individuals to mature and better themselves whenever possible.
To achieve my professional goal, I am focusing on my occupational education by attending courses to broaden my versatility and the number of roles I can fill within the Military Police field. Technically there are no required advancement schools in my field, an occupational specialist can peak with the basic school however the field is very broad in its scope and to be competitive for advancement you must strive for additional training and security focused courses and secondary specialties. My current command is very open to using Headquarters' Marine Corps money to increase the proficiency of the individual if the unit's mission can be met, therefore my time and personnel management skills are the factor that decides what courses my subordinates and I can attend, and I have ensured everyone has at least one course scheduled in the 2024 fiscal year.
For a personal goal, in the next five years I would like to buy a house. This is not a need and the current markets have cooled my enthusiasm, but I think it is an important experience that when executed with considerable forethought and a mindset on long term investment the risk can be minimized. A home is the most significant debt a person can take on and the last fifteen years have shown how volatile investment can be and I see it as an opportunity I can prepare for and take advantage of when I am ready. Partly due to that goal, I am focused on managing my savings and investments, learning what is effective so I can pass that information on to my subordinates so they can be further ahead and more financially successful and intelligent than myself when I started planning for the future.
