When we infer things, we reach conclusions based on the use of evidence and reason. Not all of our inferences are correct, of course, but theytend tobe correct more often than not. Because it is frequently more difficult to find situations that are purely deductive, we tend to use inductive reasoning and inference much more often, even knowing that it can sometimes lead to incorrect conclusions.

Assess the evidence used in their reasoning to the conclusion. Does the evidence lead you to a different conclusion? If so, why? If not, what evidence would lead you to a different inference?

The time I used inference to solve a problem was when I had just started at my new job, and there was this girl that would come in every day around 3:30 to use the computer, and we close at four, so one day we were locking up this office, and for some reason, the girl came around two this day and my co-workers and I had thought about that we had left someone inside the building but when we went to look for her in the computer lab, she wasn't there, so we are all were running around looking for her, and we couldn't find her anywhere.The evidence that I used to solve this was that all of the students had already left for that day, and there shouldn't be any in our office because the students already know that once 3:30 comes, no one is allowed in those offices. So, I started thinking that maybe she left and went out the back door and could have already gone home? Or perhaps she walked out the front door while I was in the back office? My solution was to search this whole office and our security cameras didn't show anything outside, so we had to explore the build, and everyone started to look. Yes, my solution worked because my co-worker's son found her hiding in the back of the computer lab up under a desk to the point that she isn't visible unless you got on your hand and knees to look up under there. My inferences were wrong because the girl was still, in the office, she was hiding, and they need to be modified because I should have said that maybe she is still in the office.
