Which sections can I improve myself in the following article?
Being literate is the ability to decipher the most basic terms of the language. Writing literacy stories is fun, but it can also reveal our feelings about the complexities of literacy. Writing strengthens our relationship with reading and writing and allows us to explore our emotions.
I learned to read for the first time when I was 4 years old, sitting on my grandfather's lap in the living room of our house in Istanbul. As I glanced casually at the storybook in my hand, I realized how much I had an interest in the black and white shapes on the page. Soon, I was following my finger from one word to the next, making sounds, trying to read until I focused on those words and tried to understand them. I felt like I had unlocked time to myself. Seeing what I wanted to read, my grandfather understood the sounds I was trying to make that sounded like a plea, sometimes a groan. Because the voices my grandfather heard were different from all the voices until now. But I felt like I was running through the grass while I was walking in a forest.
When I started kindergarten at the age of 5 in Turkey, I could read, but I was going to learn English as a second language. But this second language was very difficult for me, and I would not be fluent. After a while, my teacher asked me to write a short story in English. How was I going to do this because my writing skills in this language were not fully developed yet, I was having difficulty even writing a Turkish story. After reviewing a few storybooks, I started to scribble something myself. After a few moments, my teacher wondered about my spelling and said, "Did you write your play?" she asked. I couldn't finish it yet, when I said, "It's not over yet," trembling all over. I can't forget the way my teacher looked at me. Those eyes made me come back to myself, at that moment I had to write this story no matter what, it was going to be my first literacy quote. I started writing and I felt so confident and ambitious that I was going to succeed.
Two weeks later, my story was finished, it was too complicated for me, but I could fix it with my teacher, it was a big dream for me to be able to write a small story when I could not speak a second language yet. I had to read in front of everyone in the class, and that was my little dream. The name of my play was "Sassy Cat", I don't know what my teacher and friends understood from this story, but they still applauded me, I got the message "it didn't happen" from the shape of my teacher's face, but I still succeeded according to myself. Showing that courage was proof that I was doing my best.
As a result, telling our literacy stories and communicating with people brings us closer to ourselves and to each other. Writing and reading strengthen our relationship with writing and enable us to explore our emotions.
