Why the volume increased When mixing ammonium format and methanol $??$ no specific condition while mixing $,$ ammonium formate as solid $($ like crystals droplets not completely solid powder$)$ and the methanol is liquid $..$ please explain why the volume increase $"$ i thought both of them polar so like dissolve like so the volume would decrease or remain constant $,,$ from what i know is that if they dont like mixing either the volume will incease or will not mix please correct me if im wrong $,,$

also i have another question for C$18$ column $,$ can i run water as blank $?$ Another solvent $?$
