Wiy is the CO absopption band of 1 hexanol at a smaller wavenumber ( 1060cm1) than the CO abeorption band of pentanoic acid ( 1220cm1 ? The CO bond of the alcohol is stronger then the CO bond the carbaxylic acid and therefore takes less anergy to stretch it. The CO bond of the carboxylic acid is more polar than the CO bond of the alcohol, so the CO bond of the carbaxylic acid is a 5 tronger bond and therefore takes more energy to stretch it. The CO bond of the alcohol is a double bond in contrast, the CO bond of the carbaxylic acid has singla-bond character, so it is a stronger bond and therefore takes more energy to stretch it. The CO bond of the alcohol is a pure single bond. In contrast, the C - O bond of the carboxylic acid has double-bond character, so it is a strongar bond and therefore takes more energy to stratch it
