Write a response to Mexico is one of the 15 largest economies in the world as of 2015 according to Johnson, Stoskopf, and Shi (2022). Despite this fact, the Mexican people suffer from economic equality, with 50% of the population being below the poverty line in 2012. Casamassa (2021) states in Mexico "Income and wealth are concentrated by a small fraction of ultra-rich people... income concentrated on the wealthiest 10 percent in Mexico is 2.25 times higher than the income of the poorest 40 percent of the population". The fact of the matter is that the rich are hoarding the wealth and there need to be better laws and policies that give the poor and lower classes more of an advantage in getting their basic healthcare needs met. As far as Mexico's quality of care improvements, the health reform began in the 1980s, with access to health care being guaranteed in the Mexican constitution in 1983 (Johnson et al., 2022). With this change, there were still 50% of people being uninsured in 2003, and the Mexican government created the Social Protection in Health, providing health insurance to individuals who could not qualify for social security according to Johnson et al
