You are being tasked to use the material presented in class to develop grades for a compensation system. You will not develop an entire system. Rather, you will develop grades (i.e., grade midpoint, minimum and maximum) for 3 different grades. One grade consists of entry level types of jobs. The second grade consists of professional and managerial jobs. The third grade consists of senior managerial executive types of positions. For each grade you must determine, based on the wage data you have been provided, within the context of the considerations covered in class, the grade midpoint, the grade minimum and the grade maximum, for each of these grades. You must factor in the wage of the data and make the necessary adjustments prior to making calculations. You are only to use quality comparison data. You will be provided with a table of jobs that indicate the quality of the match of the comparison jobs, determining which data to include in your calculations. You will be provided with wage data. If necessary, you will need to adjust wages based on the age of the data. Your project should consist of a paper, where you explain what you are doing in writing step by step. This needs to be in the form of a formal report, not a step by step guide. You need to explain the decisions you make and justify why you are making them. You need to refer to appendices you develop where you show in writing your calculations for the age of the data as well as the grade midpoints. You are likely going to need to track down historical inflation information, referring to it and providing it as an appendix. You need to consider course material about grade minima and maxima and explain what numbers you are choosing for ranges, indicating why they are chosen, and then explain, referring to appendices where the calculations are indicated, what you did. Essentially you should end up with a written paper walking a reader through what you did and why you did it, further referring to supporting documentation of the calculations in appendices for the paper. A successful project is one where another person can read what you have done and replicate it exactly. Furthermore, a successful project correctly applies the material covered in the course as it relates to external equity. Grade 1 - Case Assistant, Executive Assistant, Information Systems Technician, Housekeeper, Switchboard Operator - Job Match Quality Hueristics: - Excellent/4 star - Jobs are very similar, almost identical - Good/3 star - Jobs match well, similar - Fair/2 star - Some similarities between jobs, not a good match - Poor/1 star - Jobs are not similar - Wage Data for Jobs: You are being tasked to use the material presented in class to develop grades for a compensation system.
