You are expected to produce three out of four pieces of short blog entries that indicate your personal understanding of the critical concepts of business management and their impact in creating for you a new way of thinking and acting and having an appreciation of the new skills you obtained through the different learning activities to enable you to meet the Assignment 1 and module's five learning outcomes over the semester.

You are reminded that the blog has a particular style of presentation that differs from the conventional type of writing. You can put together evidence and your own perspective in blogs; they're less formal than essays and reports, and the expectation is to have them expressive of your personal journey about the module's domain of knowledge and activities; you can be creative with the structure (unless your lecturer provides it for you), indicate your reasoning with short paragraphs, bullet points, bold text, italics, underlining, and headings, even using indicative and theme-related images, diagrams, and links. Not to forget that evidence-based blogs require referencing.

The domains of reflections, including the Blog Prelude, you need to write are:

Prelude Blog Entry:

Outline what the Reflective Blog consists of blog entries and introduce the reader to the function of reflection as a vital method of learning improvement in the module of Fundamentals of Business Management.

Blog Entry 1:

Select two "learning activities" you experienced in the FBM module and reflect on how they have helped you develop and improve your skillset to understand better the features and importance of business management in contemporary business organisations and the business environment.

Blog Entry 2:

Reflect on researching, reading and using different FBM's concepts and themes, as suggested to you in Item C, on two cases of different business types, and describe the personal experience of comparing specific business areas may have helped you to gain new insights and skills in understanding and appreciating the module's content.

To anchor your reflection in the module, you are asked to compare two businesses with different business objectives and select one from Part A and another from Part B.

Item A: Select one choice from the list of the suggested "non-profit making" businesses: i.

  • Transparent Hand
  • Kickstarter
  • British Heart Foundation
  • Seedrs

Item B: Select one choice from the list of suggested "profit-making" businesses:

  • Premier Inn
  • Volvo
  • Coco Cola
  • Sainsbury

Item C: As a development guideline for your reflection, you are expected to consider comparatively two themes from the list below by pointing out the similarities and differences for the blog entry development.

  • Business mission, vision, and objectives
  • Scope of business and the nature of the business there are involved in
  • The organisational and functional structures
  • The management style (s) the business adopted
  • Or any other management-related topics related to module coverage over the semester

Blog Entry 3 :

Reflect on one of the chosen businesses from Item A or B, describing how the business responded to "one" particular and central "problem" of your choice [e.g. Covid-19, Inflation, market saturation, market decline, Ukraine war, Brexit, labour turnover, or "any other factors"]; and discuss how such business behaviour can help you understand and appreciate how management functions are crucial to responding appropriately to changes resulting from internal or external factors.

Blog Entry 4:

Following the previous reflections made in the above blog entries, you need to reflect and formulate two recommendations to yourself for points (a) and (b). This entails answering how each of the recommendations will help you in;

  • overcoming challenges, you have had in understanding two of the covered themes in the FBM module and preparation for the Year 1 Bachelor
  • developing and refining two specific skill sets associated with FBM learning activities that will be very important for success in other future modules.
