The board makes it clear that they expect you to help generate $500,000 in revenue this year to help them reach their campaign goal to build a large religious statue in front of a historic building on campus. They'd like you to bring a list of your major donors and your corporate sponsors from your previous employer to help them prospect for new donors and reach that goal. What do you do? You are the Development Officer at a large environmental nonprofit that rubs spilled oil off of seagulls and removes fishing netting from dolphins. You became close friends with one of the organization's most loyal and most generous donors. You keep in touch regularly and visit her in her home when she becomes ill. She tells you that she plans to leave a large gift to the organization and because you are so dear to her and she knows you've always admired the art in her home, she plans include a provision in her will that will leave you a very valuable painting to do with as you please. What do you do? Congratulations! You were hired as a grant writer for a very cool mid- sized nonprofit that rescues and cute puppies and fluffy kitties. The Executive Director offers you a base salary of $30,000 annually but adds that you will earn a bonus of 10% of all grants the organization receives as a result of your work. He says that you can expect to earn over $100,000 annually if you do well in your position. And, he says you can hang out with puppies and kitties as much as you want. What do you do? For years, the organization has run a profitable fundraiser called Juleps & Jockeys in which guests get dressed up to watch the Kentucky Derby and drink fancy cocktails.
