You are required to design a flash mixer for coagulant addition to a water treatment plant using the following specifications. Use a baffled cylindrical tank with a turbine mixer with either a 4 or 6-bladed vaned disk. This style of impeller has the greatest power factor, meaning the slowest required rotation for a given power transfer to the water. The baffled tank has a baffle width which is 10 % of the tank diameter, leaving 80% for the impeller. To allow for clearance, assume the impeller diameter is 70% of the tank diameter. Size the tank such that the depth is half of the tank diameter. The detention time in the tank is to be 30 seconds and the water flow is 430 m3/day. The shear rate (velocity gradient) supplied by the mixer is to be at least 900 s-1
