You are the director of a not-for-profit agency that relies upon donations to continue providing your agency's services. Your friend works at StickerGiant and casually mentions the $600 bonus all employees will receive next month as a thank-you for making 2022 the most successful year yet.
After hearing about the bonus checks from your friend and the amazing success StickerGiant is having, you decide to request a donation from StickerGiant to help your charitable organization's functions.
To begin, you will choose a real non-profit organization that you are interested in and become its representative to write your request letter for a donation. By using a real non-profit organization you will be able to provide realistic information to the recipient of the letter (i.e. how the money will be used and who will benefit from it).
Then, you will write a Formal Block style letter to John Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of StickerGiant at 880 Weaver Park Rd, Longmont, CO 80501 with your request for a donation. Your letter will be a persuasive request using the Indirect Approach and AIDA model to frame your arguments, as outlined in your textbook. A video demonstrating block letter style is provided in the Module. Figure A.1 on Pg. 426 of the text, Appendix A also shows an example of block letter format. Please complete the letter using Word; utilize the layout for a block style letter. |
Tips:
Remember that you are asking for action, not just simply providing information for review. End your letter with a request that makes it easy for the reader to comply with your desired action.
Avoid, or at least minimize, the use of first person references.
Part of being successful in persuasion is to get the reader to understand how he/she can benefit from complying with your request. In this case, the reader may benefit from making a tax deductible donation or by receiving free advertising through the non-profit agency after making a donation. What other persuasive arguments can you think of to convince the reader to make a donation?
