You are working as a counsellor in a Community Based Youth Service. Your role is to support young people with mental health issues. Hazel is a 20-year-old female who has come to see you. You discuss with Hazel what has brought her to the centre today and she informs you that she has struggled with depression since she was 13 years old. Hazel has been doing well mentally for the last 12 months but she has recently started to feel quite down again. For most of the session, Hazel keeps her head down and looks at the floor. Hazel tells you that she recently broke up with her boyfriend of three (3) years and she has been really struggling since the break-up. She tells you that she feels awful and alone since the break-up. For the last few days, Hazel has had reoccurring thoughts of labelling herself as a failure and that she will forever be alone. Hazel tells you that her self-worth and self-esteem are quite low and that for the last week, she has been isolating herself in her room and avoided going outside. When you ask Hazel what she would like to work on in the session, she looks up and says, "I want to feel normal", "I hate being a failure".

A. Identify two (2) of Hazels needs or issues, and their desired changes that you would want to address within your session.

B, 1. How did you reach your conclusion for Question 1? i.e., what are the characteristics that you observed. 2. What are the benefits and limitations of using Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) in addressing the needs of the client?

C. How would you describe CBT to Hazel to ensure she fully understands the therapy's application?

D. What could be a potential legal and/or ethical consideration you will need to be aware of when working with this client?
