At the end of 2019, the world has been shocked by the Covid-19 virus outbreak started in Wuhan, China. Slowly, the deadly virus has spread-out around the globe and caused pandemic. Millions of people have been infected and thousands of people died because of this virus. Many countries around the globe including Malaysia have implemented lockdown/partial lockdown as one of the efforts to control the outbreak. The Covid-19 pandemic is projected by experts to last until 2024.
The implementation of lockdown has forced the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) to temporarily close both primary and secondary schools in Malaysia until the lockdown is lifted by the government. However, there is no certainty that the schools could be reopened in the near future as the daily Covid-19 infection cases are still high. The lockdown is expected to be extended for several months until the situation becoming controllable and stable. This is also has forced the MOE to opt for the PdPR, a remote learning method in which the Malaysian teachers are required to deliver their lessons to their students thru various kind of internet and media platforms (Zoom meetings, WhatsApp, Youtube, Google Meet, Webex).
Though, the implementation of the PdPR is believed by many to be ineffective as there is no standard platform utilized by the teachers to deliver their lessons. The teaching and learning activities varied significantly between schools, resulting in lessons coverage to be imbalanced. As the hope to reopen the schools for the face to face teaching in the near future is becoming faded due to the extension of the lockdown period, there is a suggestion made to the MOE to adopt a standard teaching and learning platform. This platform will become the official teaching and learning platform for both the Malaysian teachers and their students during the pandemic. It is the alternate to the face to face teaching method.
On 1st. June 2021, Mr. Muhammad has proposed the idea of creating and developing standard software that could be utilised by the Malaysian teachers to carry out their teaching and learning activities to the MOE. The software is expected to be directly linked to the MOE server and it also will be having the following features:
i)Video conference
This feature is for conducting the teaching activities as an alternative for the face to face teaching method. Both teachers and their students could communicate directly using the real time video and live chat.
ii)Learning materials database
This feature is for the teachers to upload their teaching materials, which is accessible for their students.
iii)Online quiz and exam
This feature is for the teachers to test and grade their students. The students' grades will be forwarded directly to the MOE for record purposes.
iv)Attendance recording
This feature will record the students' attendance and at the same time ensuring the students are present (stay in front of their computers) throughout the teaching and learning sessions.
On 30th. June 2021, Mr. Muhammad was contacted by the MOE.The MOE is interested to see the first prototype of this software. On the 1st. July 2021, Mr. Muhammad called for a short meeting and briefing about this new development. He has formed a task force comprising the company's software engineers and programmers to help the company develop the first prototype of the software. The project is expected to cost the company RM5,000,000. Mr. Muhammad is planning to apply for venture capital financing to fund the project.
You have been tasked by Mr. Muhammad to prepare the business plan for this project for the purpose of applying venture capital financing. The business plan is expected to be tabled and presented at 9.30 am in the TableApp main meeting room on the 5th. July 2021.
