You have been called in as a consultant by the board of directors to work with the leader of a small start-up that is performing well so far, at least from the outside. But what the board knew, and you quickly learned from talking to people, was that the staff believes the leader of the company doesn't trust them. In talking with employees, you learned that the staff was demoralized because the leader/CEO micromanages everything. It's one thing that he has their hands tied, but then on top of that, many of them could complete the work at a much higher quality level than the CEO. So you go to the CEO to inquire about what's going on. And he tells you: "I don't trust them."

What do you advise for this leader? What approach would you take to consult to him?
