You have someone that calls your office for a phone consultation. After you check to make sure there are no conflicts of interest, you begin the interview. Client is 72 years old, a widower, and lives alone. His adult son purchased a car about six months ago. About a month ago, his son asked client if he could store his car in client's garage. Client agreed since his son does not have garage and thought it would be a nice thing to do. Son parked his new car in client's garage but never again drove or moved the car. A week ago, client began receiving telephone calls from a car finance company. They were inquiring about his son and the car. The finance company obtained client's telephone number from the son's finance application. The finance company told client that his son defaulted on the car loan. Client did not provide the finance company with any information about the whereabouts of his son or the car. Client contacted his son to inform him of the telephone call he received from the finance company. Son simply told client he must not turn the car over to the finance company and if he did, that client would be sorry. The finance company keeps calling client and telling him they are entitled to the vehicle and they want client to turn the car over to them. The finance company has also told client if he does not cooperate, they will bring a lawsuit against him. Client is scared and does not know what to do.
