You need to know everything about the physical machine and its internals before you just start allocating a bunch of resources that your PC or server needs to function. Always keep your eye on the resources that the VMs are taking. Especially if you start to experience service drops because you can start to see the over-allocation of resources your computer cannot spare or just a bottleneck that needs to be sorted or fixed.
