Your boss, Paul, has assigned you a new task. Paul recently attended a meeting about a potential new client, Acme Electric, LLC., and has asked us to create a new system for his company. The owner of Acme Electric, LLC., Tom, envisions a website for potential customers to get information about the company and to request services. Tom also wants an internal system for his employees to report their daily work as they complete it, as well as a dashboard for him to monitor his projects and their daily status. Tom indicated during the meeting that the internal employee system was critical to the financial health of his business and should be the first part completed. He needs this completed sooner rather than later! The dashboard was second on his list to complete as it would help him better manage his scarce resources. For the long-range health of his company, he is looking at the website. Tom is eager for us to get started and wants to hear back from us with a plan at our earliest opportunity.
Pauls boss, Mary, believes that a more traditional approach, such as the Waterfall Model, would work best for this project. Paul disagrees with Mary and feels that an iterative and incremental development approach is needed for this project. Mary couldnt be convinced at the meeting, but she did tell Paul she would allow him the opportunity to make a presentation to change her mind.
Paul has tasked you with researching iterative and incremental OOAD development. He would like to be able to include the following in his presentation:
- List the advantages of using an iterative and incremental approach for this project. Explain why with specific examples.
- Address how the iterations might be organized, time-boxed, and why.
- Explain whether or not you believe this project will be an example of evolutionary development. Give specific examples of why you believe this to be true or not.
