Your group will choose a Canadian public company (with approval from the instructor).

You will research the company in general and collect its Statement of Earnings (income statement) for the last two years and Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet) for the last three years.

You will prepare a professional written report as a group and it will be submitted on the due date by the group leader.

The report should include the below:

  1. Title Page (include group number and all participating group members).
  2. Describe your companys business in detail. (5 marks)
  3. Main strengths and weaknesses of your company. (5 marks)
  4. Describe your companys main competitor, and how your company compares to them strategically. (5 marks)
  5. Calculate any two ratios from each type as related to profitability, liquidity, solvency and market tests for the most current two years (submitted as excel file and graded there).
  6. Identify the trend in the ratios. Discuss whether the increase or decrease is a positive or negative indication. Justify. (20 marks)
  7. Provide recommendations to the company in areas the ratios indicate a challenge. (15 marks)
  8. Commentary on the overall performance of the company and its potential in the future. (10 marks)
  9. Professionalism, Spelling, Format and Grammar of the report. (5 marks)
  10. Each member is responsible to provide hard copy of their peer evaluation to the instructor on the due date of the project. (5 marks, individually assigned)
  11. Report or peer evaluations will not be accepted after the due date.
  12. An excel file to show all ratio calculations - no marks will be awarded for any ratio calculation that does not have a supporting calculation for each year. (20 marks)
  13. Appendix will include:
    • A schedule clearly identifying the responsibilities of each group member. All effort must be taken to divide the work equally and fairly amongst the members. (5 marks)
    • A reference page identifying all sources including links from which financial statements were downloaded. No financial statement need to be included. (5 marks)
