Your Individual Strategy assignment (Summative Assessment 2) is a case-based written report of up to 1,500 words in total (excluding appendices). Your task Your primary task is to present an analysis of the Nokia case (Case study is attached in this assignment brief) by applying appropriate strategy models from the core module text book, Exploring Strategy'. These models should include, but must not be limited to, PESTLE, Five Forces, Strategic Grouping, Value Chain or Seven 5, Porter's generic strategies or Bowman's strategy clock. You must summarise the strategic position of Nokia using SWOT analysis and then make recommendations for the future direction of the company using your analysis and the Ansoff matrix. You should use tables or diagrams when you apply strategy models and populate them with data from the case. However, it is not sufficient to just apply models and produce diagrams or tables; you must discuss the key findings from each model (there are lots of marks available for the quality of your discussion). The information in tables or diagrams or in the end reference section will not be included in the word count. Your report should use full sentences and not bullet points (except in diagrams or tables). You should reference your work using the Harvard system and use relevant academic reading to develop and support your work (at least three different academic sources). For the purposes of the case analysis, you do not need to read beyond the case for information about Browns or the sports footwear industry. For the purposes of the case analysis, you should stick to the case and limit your reading to strategy text books and academic journal articles. You do not need to describe the models in detail e.g. you do not need to explain what Porter means by "buyer power'; it will be clear from your analysis that you understand this. However, you should summarise each model in 2 or 3 lines in order to introduce it. It is likely that the primary task will take up around 1,200 words. Your secondary task is related to employability. You should present a succinct discussion and analysis of the strategy-related jobs which exist in the real-world Apparel industry in which the fictional Nokia company operates, together with discussion and analysis of the skills that such jobs require. For this aspect of the report only, you should research what type of strategy jobs exist in this sector. The research could include on-line activity such as reviewing recruitment websites, or googling jobs in companies active in the sector, or engaging with members of the University Careers Service.
