To be successful in college, some would argue it is important to have a mentor, someone who cares about your personal and academic development and who can guide you throughout your academic career to help you make important decisions about life and school. If you were to choose a mentor, what characteristics would she or he have? Would it be important that she or he is of the same ethnicity as you are? Would it be important that she or he is the same gender as you are?

Would it be important that she or he share similar worldviews as you do? How would her or his characteristics influence the way you heed (or not heed) her/his advice?
