This chapter explains the reasons for the death of line voyages in most parts of the world (apart from transatlantic services) in the mid-twentieth century. Some 40 years ago, however, similar views were being expressed about the future of the cruising industry, which has since bounced back. Could line voyages be revived? If so, where?
