A smartphone battery is supposed to provide 3.8 volts. An aftermarket supplier manufactures 5000 replacement batteries and finds that they have a mean output of 3.8 volts, but about half of the batteries supply less than 3.8 volts and half supply more than 3.8 volts. 

Does the error appear to be random or systematic? Explain.
