1. Identify the independent variable, dependent variable, and control variable.

2. How many total people are included in the table? How many are men? How many are women?

3. Does there appear to be a relationship between citizenship status and satisfaction with financial situation for all respondents? It will help to momentarily ignore gender by focusing on the bottom third part of the table.

4. Now examine the part of the table that separates men from women. Given these data, would you say gender is a useful control variable in examining the relationship between citizenship status and satisfaction with financial situation?
