Tara Young, professor of management at Big State University, is interested in whether organizational size has an effect on leadership in nonprofit organizations. Specifi cally, organizations located in Springdale (the state’s largest county). Organizational size Professor Young has collected data on a random sample of 225 nonprofit is measured using each organization’s annual budget. The data are coded as follows:

1 = under $250,000

2 = $250,000–$500,000

3 = $500,001–$1,000,000

4 = over $1,000,000

Professor Young has collected data on a variety of characteristics for each of the organizations included in her sample, including the age of executive directors. Professor Young believes that larger nonprofits are more conservative when it comes to management issues and thus are more likely to have more seasoned executive directors. Conversely, she hypothesizes that smaller nonprofits are more entrepreneurial and are more likely to be run by younger individuals. She breaks down age of executive directors into three categories:

1 = 25–39

2 = 40–49

3 = 50 or older
