5. I am of the opinion that we have lost part of what makes us great. More than 20 percent of the global population lives in absolute poverty. There is serious disease and death from illnesses that Western medicine has the capability of curing. Children go malnourished while many of us waste more food in a day than they eat in a week. More than a billion people do not have clean water to drink or a shelter to sleep in. What makes people great is the ability to rise above ourselves as individuals and think about how we can help humanity. Albert Einstein once asked that, given we had the ability to feed the world, provide medical attention to all those who need it, and give everyone clean water, why didn’t we do that? It is time to ask that again. Why don’t we? In short, we should. We should do it now. We should all commit to giving as generously as we can to the charities that work to solve these issues.
