1. Lloyd is a process engineer for a national engineering and construction company.

He is currently working on the design of an oil refinery. It is late in the design process, and construction has already started. One morning the owner’s construction manager issues to Lloyd’s company a major change in the process. It will require some redesign and the purchase of a gas turbine compressor, for which Lloyd has no experience. As he sits at his desk wondering what to do, he recalls that he has a hard drive at home with all the design documents and drawings from a project he worked on for a former employer. That night he finds a specification for a similar compressor on the hard drive. It is marked proprietary, but Lloyd deletes that. He spends half the night, at home, doctoring the specification to suit the design conditions for his current project. The next day he shows the draft specification to his boss, who is extremely pleased with Lloyd’s rapid response to the owner’s request. Was Lloyd’s behavior ethical? Explain your answer.
