We shall find it useful to represent the structure of a system in terms of a diagram.
The relevant diagram for the series structure is shown in Figure 9.1. The idea is that if a signal is initiated at the left end of the diagram then in order for it to successfully reach the right end, it must pass through all of the components;
hence, they must all be functioning.
