This book is incredibly informative and perfect for my studies in computer science. It arrived quickly and well-packaged. My only gripe is the heavy technical jargon, which can be a little daunting if you're new to the subject.
JW
I'm new to database systems, and this textbook has been my savior. The authors break down complicated topics into digestible sections. Some parts are a bit dense, but overall it's very well laid out. Came on time and in perfect condition.

The book is undeniably thorough, sometimes too thorough for my taste as a casual reader. It's better suited for someone with a solid IT background. I was slightly lost in some technical sections, but it's a well-crafted book nonetheless.

While the book is quite comprehensive, I felt some examples could use an update. Technology changes fast, and the book doesn't quite keep up. Nonetheless, it's a solid base for anyone venturing into database design.

Being in the IT sector for over 15 years, I still learned new things from this book. It's an excellent reference guide that blends theory with practical application. The quality of the book is top-notch, and I received my copy promptly.

I was hoping for more practical examples. This edition focuses heavily on theory, which is a bit disappointing. However, it was delivered on time and in good condition, so no issues there.

If you're studying database systems, this book is a great companion. The authors explain complex topics in a straightforward manner. I did hope for more real-life cases, but overall a commendable resource.

Was hunting around for some solid materials to get a grip on my database course stuff and stumbled across this one on sale—couldn’t pass up getting it with the discount! What really stuck with me was Chapter 8 on 'Normalization and Relational Database Design.' Before digging in, concepts like splitting tables and reducing redundancy were just a big confusing mess in my head, and I kept mixing up keys and relationships. Everything felt vague and scattered.
But when I actually got into Chapter 8, something clicked. The way it peeled off each level of normalization made it kinda fun and what surprised me was how the step-by-step examples made the theory less scary. Like this one example analyzing customer orders—breaking it down helped me get why splitting tables is practical, not just some academic stuff. That moment was pure relief, ‘oh! so that’s when you use 2NF, neat.’
I even applied some tips the next day working on my class project’s database schema to avoid data getting messy, and my professor liked how clean and logical the design turned out. On the slightly annoying side, some of the language ran too heavy on terminology which slowed me a bit at first, plus maybe a few diagrams thrown in would help folks new to the nitty gritty.
Still, I think the twelve bucks I snagged it for on discount were so worth it—makes design less frustrating and more do-able. It’s gonna stick with me throughout my studies for sure. If you want to jump from confused beginner to playing with table structures confidently, this definitely deserves a spot on your shelf.
