"You're still a student, but when you tell me about all the problems new product managers have putting together financial worksheets you sound like the people we have around here. They complain that the financial analyses we use call for more data than we have. They say the results are unreliable and all that, but, what they really want is no financial appraisal at all--just leave them alone and they'll eventually bring back the bacon--big slabs of it. How else can we keep reasonable managerial control over the use of sometimes very great corporate resources?"
