1. Fringe benefits are not included in these rates. In 2003 they averaged 12.2 percent of wages and salaries. In 2004 they are averaging 12.8 percent.
In 2005 they are expected to average 13.6 percent.
2. Permission has been obtained from the City Council to budget an 8 percent cost-of-living increase for 2005. In addition, the mayor of Bacchus City has recommended that the director and the assistant director each be given a $1,000 merit irtcrease, in addition to their cost-of-living increases.
3. Due to the building of several miles of new streets in 2004, the mayor believes that an additional maintenance crew, consisting of one supervisor, one equipment operator II, and two laborers should be hired.
4. From March 3 to March 7, the director of the Streets and Parkways Department plans to attend a professional conference in Milwaukee at a cost of $750. In addition, the director and the assistant director plan to attend a technical workshop in Tampa from April 21 through April 25, at a cost of $500 each. Finally, the five supervisors are expected to attend a team-building workshop, given at a nearby city on August 18. The cost of this travel for all five supervisors is expected to be $100. In 2003, travel costs amounted to $1,425. In 2004 they were budgeted at $1,500. A total of $1,600 is expected to be spent this year.
5. Assume that in 2004 budgeted salaries are the same as actual salaries.
Assume also that the Streets and Parkways Department’s activities are recorded in the General Fund and that this department’s function falls under the heading of Public Works.
