A 16-year-old worked in a concession stand at a theme park. The owner of the park, a 48-year-old man who was a long-time friend of her parents, came to the concession stand and began talking to her and another young female about the subject of birth control. The owner told them that they needed “to be with a guy that had a vasectomy” and “really needed to be on birth control.” The 16-year-old said that his comments made her feel “awkward,” “a little embarrassed,” and “kind of confused.” The 16-year-old was then instructed to work in the gift shop rather than her usual assignment at the concession stand. The owner again approached the girl and wanted to talk about sex and birth control. He asked the girl whether she had ever had sex and said that she looked like the type of girl that would have already had sex. He said that young guys didn’t know how to have real sex and weren’t as experienced as somebody his age. The owner said that that if the girl ever got a chance to get out of the house for a day, she could call him up and he would take her to a motel and give her “the experience of a lifetime.” He said that he would show her “what real sex is like.” The owner also said that when the girl turned twenty-one, he would take her to Las Vegas. The conversation, which lasted about ten minutes, was interrupted by customers coming into the gift shop. At the end of her shift, the girl left work and never returned.
