A number of cities and states have removed questions about prior criminal convictions from applications for public employment. Advocates of this approach, which has been dubbed “ban the box,”are in effect, saying that criminal history should be treated like medical information; it is highly prejudicial and likely to result in discrimination if divulged at the outset of the hiring process.
