What is the role of confounding variables in research? When you think about this question, consider comparing qualitative and quantitative research. For example, when we are conducting an experiment we try to minimize the eect of potentially confounding variables by keeping them constant (controlling them) so as to avoid bias. However, it may be argued that because in a qualitative research study it is, in principle, impossible to avoid researcher bias, the role of confounding variables is dierent.
