Aresearcher is interested in whether a difference can occur between scores on one of the Maryland Addiction Questionnaire (MAQ) subtests, namely the Motivation for Continued Treatment (MOT) among inmates incarcerated for operating a vehicle under the influence (OUI). Two groups of males were randomly selected. There were five subjects in Group 1, and all were assigned to a treatment facility for dealing with substance-abuse issues. The other group of five subjects (Group 2) continued in the main jail, with no special treatment being provided. After three months, both groups were tested on the MOT (high scores indicating greater motivation for treatment and change).

The scores follow: Group 1: 7, 11, 10, 12, 10, and Group 2: 5, 9, 5, 9, 7.

a. Test the research hypothesis that there will be a difference between the two sets of scores.

b. Calculate a confidence interval at the .95 level for establishing the true population difference between the groups.
