This exercise is an involved activity which will require substantial time and effort for students to complete and the cooperation of local organizations. As such, it's useful to assign the exercise as a written report which will be graded. If students cannot gain entry into an organization, have them complete the exercise using a past job which they've held as the subject of analysis; a job profile and job redesign strategy can be developed for these jobs.  

In discussing student profiles and redesign strategies, it is useful to select two or three profiled jobs within the class (very different jobs) and pose these questions: 

1. How did employees (or student job holders and peers) react to the job? Can you link these reactions to certain job characteristics? 

2. Summarize the proposed redesign strategy (for each job). How feasible is the strategy? To what degree will the strategy improve the job's motivating potential? 

3.What potential problems might the strategy implementation encounter?  (To the entire class): What's the most useful thing that you've learned from the exercise?
