Terrorism is no longer a far off distant concept that we used to occasionally see on the nightly news, in some far off distant land. Terrorism is here on our doorstep, years before the 9/11 attack, and it & rsquo;s getting worse almost by the day. We have seen U.S. born individuals who have attempted to join ISIS and home homegrown terrorist, such as Timothy McVeigh. So what steps should the U.S. take to curb this threat, without infringing on our constitutional rights?

The first step should be better vetting of individuals coming into the country, individuals whose country of origin is from a high threat country. I would also suggest that some sort of analysis be done on both high profile government and civilian facilities be done in order to recognize what venues might have a higher chance of a possible terrorist attack. This may seem like a herculean task, but I feel it must be done. Smaller, less likely venues, such as strip malls, coffee shops, etc., should have upgraded security in the form of electronic surveillance and presence patrols of armed guards. This is most likely not financially feasible, but there could be some form of government assistance. Private security companies could have specialized training in counter terror tactics, as in how to spot individuals, or devices, that are currently being used by terrorist, as well as employing more bomb sniffing K9 units and handlers.These are just a few ideas, most not financially feasible, but spotting a possible terrorist here in the U.S., is very difficult without the proper training and tools. Countries such as Israel, and trying to curb terrorism in their country, is difficult and they have had the training and been doing it for decades
