A fuel gas produced from a coal gasification process contains 30%CO, 15% H, and 55% N by volume (i.e. by mol). The gas and the combustion air enter the calorimeter at 25C and 101.3 kPa. The products of combustion contain 12% CO by volume on a dry basis. (a) (5 marks) Determine the amount of each combustion product produced in kmols per kmol of fuel gas mixture. You may assume complete combustion. (b) (3 marks) The products of combustion leave the calorimeter at 30C. Determine the amount of water product condensed out as liquid in kmol water per kmol of fuel gas mixture. (c) (1 marks) The fuel gas flow rate is 0.1 litres/sec at 25C and 101.3 kPa. Determine its flow rate in kmol/s. (d) (4 marks) A water flow of 0.022 kg/s enters the calorimeter at 20C and leaves at 25C. Determine the higher heating value of the fuel. You may assume that the condensed liquid leaves the calorimeter at 25C.
