5.1 A sale of polarizing filters is held twice annually by a photographic products distributor. The demand pattern for a particular size of filter for the past year is as follows: Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May June 21 29 24 86 31 38 July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. 45 39 31 788 29 29 32 32 It is anticipated that demand for the next year will follow this pattern; hence, these figures are being used as the "best estimates" of forthcoming sales. Demand will also con- tinue in future years. The cost of these filters is $8.65, ordering costs are approximately $35, and the carrying cost is 0.24 $/$/year. 2 Assume on hand of 10 units at the present time (i.e. end of period 0). Plan only the immediate replenishment (i.e., plan just the first inventory cycle). Since present on hand is not zero, we must calculate net requirements. Hence, present your plan in MRP table. Also, assume that the lead-time in this problem is equal to zero. Use Silver-Meal heuristic if your variability coefficient, VC, is more than 0.2. Note VC= = Variance of demand per period Square of average demand per period (d-d) n d
