9 points Ten year-old Jacob Keller, grandson of notable behavioral researcher Fred Keller, conducted a simple experiment aimed to increase the amount of curbside recycling completed in two sections of his local neighborhood. Jacob hypothesized that leaving notes would increase recycling. Jacob's notes were simple: he introduced himself, reported how many homes recycled in the previous week, and asked residents to put out their recycling in the week following. A local grocery store agreed to sponsor gift certificates given to a local homeless shelter that Jacob would deliver if residents increased their recycling in the week following. Jacob left notes for houses located on Dilworth Road West (one side of the neighborhood), and left no notes at homes on Dilworth Road East (a different part of the neighborhood). As Jacob expected, homes that received notes began putting out their recycling bins more often (figure, below). Closed black circles denote the amount of recycling that was observed on Dilworth Road West (the homes receiving notes). Open boxes denote the amount of recycling observed on Dilworth Road East (the homes receiving NO notes). 55 Before 50 50 Dilworth Road West (notes) During After In this scenario, identify the: Independent variable - choose your answer...
