Action Learning Project (ALP): Industry Analysis This project is based on the following HBS case study that analyses the global pharmaceutical industry with special reference to Pfizer: HBS Case study- Pfizer and the Challenges of the Pharmaceutical Industry (A), Ivey Business School Foundation, 2019 (Case No. W19390)- The case describes the entire pharmaceutical industry, its competitive dynamics, and explains the effects of R\&D process on sales price and profit. It also describes the patent process and other developments in the industry that put pharmaceutical companies under pressure. You are required to evaluate the pharmaceutical industry, understand industry-specific trends and challenges and, suggest how Pfizer might best respond. Read the case thoroughly and other relevant materials (you are expected to do in-depth research and come up with some innovative ideas) and answer the following questions: - What were the boundaries on the pharmaceutical industry and how was the power and therefore, profitability distributed? Apply structural analysis by using concepts of competition, value-chain model, and Porter's Five Forces Model. - Which overall trends can be observed? - How and why will the profitability of the industry change? - How might Pfizer react to trends, changes, and challenges in the industry?
