Alexis Rose is a senior staff auditor on the financial statement audit of Wal-Mart (which is a public company). Last week, Alexis was approached by Holden Hoggatt, the companys Director of Financial Reporting to tell her that a junior position in his team had opened up and that she should consider applying. While she enjoyed working on the Wal-Mart engagement and the people in the CFOs department, she knew (and Holden confirmed) that the position would require Alexis to relocate from Atlanta to Bentonville, Arkansas.

Alexis cringed at the thought of moving to Arkansas; she did not want to leave her life in Atlanta. But, out of politeness, Alexis asked Holden what the position entailed. Holden said that the positions main focus is to take the monthly reports submitted by each region and to consolidate information into a company-wide, consolidated financial statements each month. Alexis thanked Holden for thinking of her and told him she would consider applying.

After about a week, Holden asked Alexis if she had given it any thought on applying for the position. Alexis had honestly never given it much more thought since Holden mentioned it; she did not want to make a move right now. Alexis thanked Holden for thinking of her, but she courteously explained that she was not interested in making a career change at this point

Please respond to the scenario above, in regards to whether Alexis did the right thing or not.

Would Alexis have violated any professional standards if she had applied and taken the job?
