Ankita is the only daughter of her parents who had come to Kolkata from Delhi many decades ago. The family ran Manali Caf in front of the Future group of colleges. The caf is open from 7 am to 10 am and again from 12 noon to 6 pm. It provided clean, high quality vegetarian items to its clients who were mostly the students and staffs of the four colleges located in the complex. Recently Ankita came in touch with Rupesh, her ex-classmate as a partner. Rupesh is in favor of introducing new offerings including both veg and non-veg dishes including a beer bar. He also proposed starting another branch in a location 10 kms which is near Kolkata airport.

Ankita was apprehensive of shifting to such an aggressive strategies and decided to engage a IMRK International, a reputed marketing Research organization to prepare a report of the likely impact of such strategic changes. Rajat Kumar was given the responsibility to work on this project for IMRK International. Rajat conducted a series of meeting with Ankita and Rupesh to understand the management problem so that appropriate research design be conducted on appropriate research problems.
