As a tech start-up, Techwear built a new, state-of-the-art distribution center for its shipping and fulfillment process. Because of the process and technology, the warehouse can stock thousands of items and nearly all can be picked, packed, and loaded on a truck in less than two hours after a customer places an order.
Picking: Once a customer confirms their order, a Sales Order is created and the Sales Order database is updated. To fulfill the order, it is read from the Sales Order database, displayed to the Techwear associate on a tablet, and a Sales Order Barcode sticker is printed. The associate affixes the Sales Order Barcode to a bin (think of a large, rolling crate that the associate can easily push around the warehouse). The tablet tells the associate where the ordered item(s) are in the warehouse so the associate can take the bin to the appropriate section of the warehouse to be filled. The associate fills the bin with all the ordered items, scanning each individual items SKU barcode with the tablet as he/she places the item in the bin. Based on the SKU barcodes that are scanned, the tablet automatically displays the items that are in the bin and the items that are on the order but have not yet been placed in the bin. Once all ordered items are in the bin, the associate presses the Order Picked button on the tablet. This triggers three actions:
