The moon A new report of crime statistics in Scotland shows that violent crimes have skyrocketed with a massive increase of violent offences reported to police over the last year, with 84% of all crimes reported as assault.

Scott Campbell from Glasgow said upon hearing about the statistics, 'It's not safe anymore on the streets, you never know if things are going to kick off and someone has a go at you'.

Rape and attempted rape are at the highest ever levels, up a record 15% compared to pre-lockdown figures, leading to women cowering in their homes. Jenny MacLean from Edinburgh said,'I've got friends just downright scared after lockdown - the thought of them being stuck in the house with their man is just sickening'.

CYBER CRIME RATES HIGHEST EVER RECORDED

Due to the pandemic, the public is not going out as much, and with the increase in online shopping and socialising, cybercrime rates have been off the charts. This has included an increase in 28% of online stalking, and a 10% increase of online scams.

Julie Gillespie, mother of 3, from Linlithgow said, 'It's not safe for kids outside and it's also not safe for them online with all the predators out there'.

Some crimes have decreased over the pandemic, with recorded drug possessions, crimes against the public, and the possession of weapons all decreasing.
