Data Set Assignment for Week #5
Explanation of Variables
Age - rounded to the nearest year
Gender - Male & Female
Truavg - average rating of truth, ratings from 0 to 1 with 0 = truth is relative to 1 = truth is objective.
Behavg - average rating of behavior, higher numbers indicate more positive behavior being exhibited.
Luvavg - average rating of love attitude, higher numbers indicate the importance of loving others.
School - type of schooling, h = home school, t = traditional school
Relaff - religious affiliation, 1 = non-religious, 2 = protestant, 3 = catholic
Instruction - 1 = public school, 2 = home school, 3 = private school, 4 = Christian school
Data Set Assignments
Week 5
Before analyzing your data for week #5, provide me with a hypothesis on the analyses that you will be running. We are looking at the relationships between:
1. Religious affiliation (as non-religious, protestant, or catholic) and ratings of absolute truth (is truth relative or absolute?). Provide me with your hypothesis. In running this statistic, what do you expect to find? Start this with "It is hypothesized that..."
2. Instruction (public school, home school, private school, or Christian school) and ratings of love attitude (the importance of loving others). Provide me with your hypothesis. In running this statistic, what do you expect to find? Start this with "It is hypothesized that..."
3. Instruction (public school, home school, private school, or Christian school) and ratings of behavior (number of positive behaviors being reported by the participant). Provide me with your hypothesis. In running this statistic, what do you expect to find? Start this with "It is hypothesized that..."
Now, run the statistics!
Using the truavg variable as the DEPENDENT variable, conduct a one-way ANOVA on the religious affiliation groups (relaff variable), using religious affiliation as the INDEPENDENT variable.
Using the luvavg and behavg variables, have students conduct a one-way ANOVA on the type of instruction groups (instruction variable). Here, we have two more analyses - use instruction as the INDEPENDENT variable for both statistical analyses. Use luvavg as the DEPENDENT variable for your first analysis and behavg as the DEPENDENT variable for your second analysis.
After you conduct the analyses, explain what you found in a short paragraph and your reaction to these findings.
