Eli has been one of the top five salesmen in his company for the last three years and is having a good year to date. Although, he is not quite at his goal of 1 million dollars in sales, he is $40,000 dollars away from hitting the 1 million dollar sales mark. All he needs is one good sale and he will be able to meet his goal. Furthermore, SMART offers its sales employees a $30,000 personal bonus for getting 1 million dollars in sales. That $30,000 would help Eli put an addition onto his house as he and his wife just had a newborn baby girl.

Eli goes through all of his contacts in December, trying to find more customers to sell to so he can make his goal - he needs about $40,000 in sales. All of his contacts say that they are not ready to purchase right now, but may be able to in the new year. This is not good enough for Eli, who needs to sell $40,000 in SMART products before December 31st to get his bonus. Then he calls Asim Sayed, the principle of a poor school in Toronto. Eli knows that Asim's school cannot afford the technology but the students would greatly benefit from having some of the SMART tools.

Eli, offers to donate $15,000 of his own money to the school if the school were to purchase the $40,000 school package. Thus, the school would get a $40,000 technology hardware/software package from SMART and would only have to input $25,000 of their own money. It sounded like a win-win situation for Eli. He would donate $15,000, but would get the $30,000 bonus and he could put the addition onto his house. Furthermore, the school would get the technology they so desperately needed for a price that they could afford.

TASK: After further thinking about the benefits to both him and Asim's school, Eli determined this was a good thing to do. Do you agree with Eli? Use the steps provided in lesson 1-1E as a guide to determining the proper course of action. Answer the following questions in your assignment.
