Hi. please help me answer this question. As you can see, the marks are qyite high. so i hope you can givee the right answer, kindly state any reference table.
QUESTION 1 (PO2, CO2, C4) Cyclopentane is currently used as a refrigerant, as an ingredient in the manufacture of synthetic resins and rubber adhesives, and as a blowing agent in the manufacture of polyurethane insulating foam. In the production of liquid cyclopentane, 1500 L/s of cyclopentane vapor at 90C and 1 atm is partially condensed in an adiabatic condenser. Normally, 60% of feed molar flowrate is condensed to produce liquid cyclopentane. Liquid water used as cooling medium enters the condenser at 25C and 1 atm; and leaves the condenser at 50C. Both heating and cooling process occurs at constant pressure. Cyclopentane vapor is assumed to behave as ideal gas. Due to unavoidable circumstances, the feed flowrate of cyclopentane vapor is reduced to 10% to 20% of its current value; meanwhile, the molar flowrate of cooling water in the condenser is maintained as in the normal operation. As a design engineer, you have been assigned to recalculate the mass and energy balance of the condenser by considering the operating temperature and pressure of cyclopentane and cooling water streams are maintained as in the normal operation. Decide one (1) value between 10% to 20% reduction of cyclopentane vapor production and estimate the amount of water required for cooling process and the percentage of cyclopentane vapor converted to liquid.
